A Teaser, and a Lot of Reading Between the Lines
Kawasaki has dropped a teaser for what appears to be a larger-displacement version of its KLE adventure motorcycle, and RideApart expects it to debut at EICMA next month. The teaser has not come with specs, a name or a price, so what follows is analysis of the images, not confirmed information. Still, the clues are specific enough to build a picture of where the bike might land.
What the Teaser Shows
RideApart's writer reads the images as showing something bigger than the KLE500, not just an update. The points in support: a front spoked wheel, what appear to be twin-disc brakes, and an engine shot that does not quite look like the KLE500's. Earlier reports suggested the bike would use Kawasaki's 650 engine, a parallel twin used in some of the company's roadsters and sport-tourers.
Commenters have asked whether the bike is an updated KLE500 or an upgraded version with more hardcore capability. The teaser does not settle that, and Kawasaki has not confirmed any details.
The Bike It Would Sit Above
The KLE500 is the baseline. It uses a 451cc parallel twin shared with the Ninja 500, Z500 and Eliminator, with a liquid-cooled, four-valve DOHC layout and fuel injection. Power figures vary by market: a US spec sheet lists 51 horsepower, while European listings show about 45 horsepower, a difference likely due to measurement or rating methods, and a figure roughly consistent with the A2 licence limit in some markets.
Numbers for the Current Bike
Seat height is 870 mm (about 34.3 inches), dry weight is 176 kg and curb weight with ABS is 195 kg. It rides on a 21-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear, with inverted forks and a rear monoshock, a wheelbase of 1,555 mm and 185 mm of ground clearance. In the US, the standard model's MSRP is $6,599, plus a $650 destination charge, and the SE variant costs $7,499. In the UK, the base model is £5,999 and the SE £6,599.
Those prices are why the bike drew attention: an adventure bike with real off-road geometry at a price near $6,600 is rare.
Why a Bigger KLE Makes Sense
The KLE500 returned Kawasaki to the middleweight adventure space at an accessible price. A 650-class KLE would put the company in competition with a crowded field of mid-size adventure bikes, and the spoked front wheel hints at real off-road intent. For riders who wanted more power than the KLE500 but not the weight of a liter-class adventure bike, it could be an appealing middle.
Kawasaki's Wider Off-Road Push
The company has been busy elsewhere. RideApart has covered a refreshed 2027 KLX300 family, with updates to specs, features and price, and a new, cheaper adventure motorcycle aimed at Honda and KTM. Together they point to a ladder of dual-sport and adventure bikes at different price points, from small-displacement dirt-focused models up to the KLE line.
What to Expect at EICMA
EICMA, the Milan motorcycle show, is where manufacturers traditionally unveil new models for the coming year. If the teaser is right, the bike should appear there with full specs. Until then, treat any displacement, horsepower or price numbers as speculation.
What Riders Should Do
If you are shopping for an adventure bike in the next year, the sensible move is to wait for the EICMA reveal before committing. Compare the new bike's expected weight, seat height, suspension travel and fuel range against your riding. Keep an eye on US availability, since models shown in Milan do not always reach American dealers right away, and pricing in dollars often differs from European announcements.
If the bigger KLE keeps the approachable pricing of the KLE500, it could reshape the middleweight segment. If it moves upmarket, the KLE500 will keep its place as the value choice. Either way, the answer is a few weeks away.
