The World Cup is coming, and Plasencia Cigars is marking the occasion the only way a multigenerational cigar dynasty knows how — with tobacco.
The Honduran powerhouse is releasing the Plasencia Triunfal Gran Toro, a limited-edition smoke tied directly to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off June 11 and is expected to draw an audience of nearly six billion viewers worldwide. It is a big moment for the sport, and the Plasencia family clearly sees it as a big moment worth commemorating in the humidor.
What's in the Box
The Triunfal Gran Toro measures 6 1/4 inches with a 54 ring gauge — a substantial, full-size smoke built for a long sit. Every leaf in the blend was grown by the Plasencia family itself, which is worth noting given how rarely a manufacturer controls the entire supply chain from seed to cellophane.

The wrapper is a Honduran leaf cultivated on the La Tradición farm in the Jamastran valley, one of the most respected growing regions in Central America. The binder is also Honduran, sourced from the San Agustín farm in the Olancho region. The filler is a two-country blend — Nicaraguan tobacco from the La Vega farm in Jalapa combined with additional Honduran leaf from the same La Tradición farm that produced the wrapper.
The cigars are rolled at Plasencia's Tabacos de Oriente factory in Honduras.
The Numbers
Production is capped at 5,000 numbered boxes, each containing 10 cigars. Single sticks will retail for $59.99, with boxes priced at $599. At that price point, this sits firmly in the premium tier — not a casual Tuesday smoke, but not out of reach for the serious collector either.
There is also a bit of company history baked into this release. The Triunfal is the first cigar to carry Plasencia's new logo on both the box and the band, making it something of a dual milestone for the brand.
A Family Tradition
This is not the first time the Plasencias have tied a cigar to the World Cup. In 2022, when the tournament was held in Qatar, the family released the Ehtëfal as a similarly themed limited edition. The Triunfal appears to be a continuation of that tradition — marking each tournament cycle with a cigar made to reflect the scale of the event.
José Luis Plasencia, a fifth-generation member of the family, spoke to the thinking behind the release. "Triunfal represents much more than a cigar," he said. "It reflects unity, resilience and celebration — values that resonate deeply with our family's heritage."
The company describes the cigar as honoring "a historic international celebration that brings nations together through passion, resilience and the enduring spirit of the beautiful game: fútbol."
The Bigger Picture
The Plasencia name carries serious weight in the premium cigar world. The family has been farming and producing tobacco for five generations, building operations across Honduras and Nicaragua that give them an unusual degree of control over the quality and character of their blends. Releasing a cigar tied to the World Cup is not just a marketing move — it is a statement from a family that clearly views its work as something worth celebrating alongside one of the largest sporting events on the planet.
For collectors, the numbered boxes and limited run of 5,000 give this release some real scarcity. For smokers, a Gran Toro with this much Honduran and Nicaraguan character, coming from farms the Plasencias have worked for decades, is going to be worth tracking down before the opening whistle blows.
The Plasencia Triunfal Gran Toro is available now through authorized Plasencia retailers.
