At the 2025 Overland Expo West in Flagstaff, Arizona, Jeep turned heads with a bold new concept that’s got the overlanding community buzzing. Partnering with Dometic, Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar unveiled the Awning and Rooftop Tent (ARTT) system, a sleek, innovative setup designed exclusively for the four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JL-generation). This isn’t just another rooftop tent or awning—it’s a fully integrated system that blends lightweight design, seamless functionality, and trail-ready durability. For Jeep owners who live for off-road adventures, the ARTT could be the ultimate game-changer.
A Smarter Way to Overland
Overlanding is all about freedom, exploration, and living comfortably in the wild. Rooftop tents and awnings have long been staples for Jeep owners, but they often come with trade-offs: bulky roof racks, tricky setups, or designs that feel like an afterthought. The ARTT system changes that. Built from the ground up for the Jeep Wrangler, it combines a rooftop tent and a 270-degree awning into one low-profile, aerodynamic package.

What makes it stand out? It mounts directly to the Wrangler’s roll cage and hardtop roof, eliminating the need for a heavy-duty roof rack. This not only reduces weight but also keeps the vehicle’s center of gravity low, which is a big deal for off-roaders tackling steep inclines or rocky trails. The system is capped with a lightweight carbon-fiber shell that cuts down on wind resistance, making it easier on fuel efficiency during long-distance overlanding trips.
“The lightweight and compact JPP Awning and Rooftop Tent concept is the perfect accessory for adventure-seeking Jeep Wrangler owners, whether they are overlanding across long distances or decide to go on a spur-of-the-moment quick weekend getaway,” said Mike Koval, senior vice president and head of sales operations for the Jeep brand. The ARTT’s debut at Overland Expo West was a chance to show off its potential to Jeep enthusiasts, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Designed with Jeep DNA
The ARTT system was developed in collaboration with Dometic, a leader in mobile-living solutions, and it shows. Every detail is tailored to the Wrangler’s rugged lifestyle. The tent uses Dometic’s AIR Frame Inflation technology, which makes setup quick and hassle-free. No more wrestling with poles or complicated instructions—just inflate, and you’re ready to camp. The tent itself is spacious enough to fit a queen-sized mattress, offering plenty of room for two people to sleep comfortably.

One of the standout features is the interior access port. By removing the Wrangler’s hardtop “Freedom Panels,” campers can climb directly into the tent from inside the vehicle. This is a huge plus for late-night trips to the tent or when the weather turns nasty. To make the climb easier, the ARTT includes a carbon-fiber step that sits over the center console, protecting it from scuffs and wear. It’s a small but thoughtful touch that shows how much care went into the design.
The awning is just as impressive. It swings out a full 270 degrees from the driver’s side, providing shade across the side and rear of the Wrangler. Supported by a cable that attaches to the hood, the awning stays secure even in windy conditions. It’s also equipped with LED lighting on the support arms, making it easy to cook, relax, or set up camp after dark. Even with the awning fully extended, the Wrangler’s tailgate and rear window remain fully accessible, so you can grab gear from the cargo area without any hassle.
Showcased on the Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser
The ARTT system made its grand debut atop the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser, a concept vehicle first revealed at the 2025 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. This electrified off-roader is built for adventure, starting with a four-door Wrangler 4xe Rubicon. It features a 2-inch JPP suspension lift, high-top fender flares, and massive 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 mud-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels. A Warn recovery winch, custom guard, push bar, and Mopar Illuminati3 pivoting light bar add to its trail-ready credentials. The Sunchaser also sports concept side storage boxes with integrated Molle panels for carrying gear, though these aren’t part of the ARTT system itself.

Painted in a striking Solar Flash and Satin Black color scheme, the Sunchaser is a head-turner. Originally equipped with a roof storage rack, it was modified to showcase the ARTT system, proving that this concept can integrate seamlessly with a fully accessorized Wrangler. Whether you’re exploring remote deserts or camping by an alpine lake, the Sunchaser with the ARTT system is ready for anything.
A Concept Grounded in Reality
While the ARTT system is still a concept, it feels like something Jeep could easily bring to market. It was developed through the Stellantis Star*Up intrapreneurship program, an initiative that encourages Stellantis employees to pitch innovative ideas. This program acts as an idea incubator, fostering a consumer-focused mindset and entrepreneurial spirit. The fact that the ARTT emerged from this process speaks to its practicality and appeal.

For overlanders, the ARTT checks all the boxes: it’s lightweight, aerodynamic, and built specifically for the Wrangler. It’s also versatile enough for both hardcore overlanders crossing continents and weekend warriors looking for a quick escape. The carbon-fiber shell keeps it sleek and trail-capable, while the integrated design ensures it doesn’t compromise the Wrangler’s off-road performance.
Why It Matters for Jeep Owners
The overlanding community is growing, and Jeep owners are at the heart of it. They demand gear that’s tough, efficient, and designed for the way they live. The ARTT system delivers on all fronts. It’s not just about camping—it’s about making every adventure easier and more enjoyable. From the quick setup to the clever interior access, every feature is designed to enhance the overlanding experience.
While Jeep hasn’t confirmed whether the ARTT will become a production JPP product, the concept’s debut has sparked plenty of excitement. Many are hoping to see more at the 2025 SEMA Show, where Jeep often showcases its latest innovations. For now, the ARTT is a tantalizing glimpse of what’s possible—a rooftop tent and awning system that’s as rugged and adventurous as the Wrangler itself.
The Future of Overlanding?
The Jeep Wrangler has always been about pushing boundaries, and the ARTT system takes that spirit to new heights—literally. By combining a rooftop tent and awning into one lightweight, Wrangler-specific package, Jeep and Dometic have created something that could redefine overlanding. It’s practical, innovative, and built for the trail. If this concept becomes reality, it’s easy to see it becoming a must-have for Jeep owners everywhere.

For now, the ARTT remains a concept, but it’s one that’s got overlanders dreaming of their next adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned off-roader or just starting to explore the wild, the ARTT system is proof that Jeep is listening to its community and designing for the future of overlanding.
