Top States for Mountain Biking Across America

The Best Mountain Biking States in The U.S.

<

Mountain biking is on the list for most adventure junkies, and the USA’s got some killer spots to shred. From gnarly desert trails to lush forest paths, these states have it all—epic views, sweet singletrack, and vibes that make every ride a blast. I’ve been hooked since I ate dirt on a Utah trail years back, and trust me, these places will get your heart pumping. Here’s the lowdown on the six best states to hit up for mountain biking.

1. Utah: Slickrock Heaven

Utah’s a total game-changer with its wild mix of red rock trails and alpine singletrack. Moab’s Slickrock Trail is legendary for its grippy, rollercoaster-like vibe, while Park City’s bike parks serve up flowy downhill runs. I wiped out hard on Porcupine Rim once—total rookie move—but the views made it worth the bruises.

2. Colorado: Mile-High Thrills

Colorado’s got trails for days, from Durango’s techy descents to Crested Butte’s high-altitude wildflower paths. The Colorado Trail is a beast, stretching over 500 miles for those craving a marathon ride. With killer scenery and legit bike towns, it’s no wonder riders flock here.

3. California: Coastal to Sierra Smorgasboard

California’s a beast with everything from Santa Cruz’s redwood-lined singletrack to Tahoe’s lake-view epics. The Northstar Bike Park is a downhill junkie’s dream, and you can ride year-round in spots like San Diego. It’s got trails for newbies and pros alike, no cap.

4. North Carolina: Pisgah’s Raw Vibe

North Carolina’s Pisgah National Forest is where it’s at for East Coast riders. Brevard’s got rugged trails like Black Mountain that’ll test your skills, but new flowy paths make it chill for beginners too. The forest’s waterfalls and greenery make every ride feel like an adventure flick.

5. Oregon: Bend’s Dusty Playground

Oregon’s Bend is a mountain biking mecca with hundreds of miles of trails and that famous “moon dust” dirt. Phil’s Trail Complex is perfect for quick laps, and Mt. Bachelor’s bike park brings the heat for downhill fans. Plus, the brewpubs in town are a dope post-ride hangout.

6. Arizona: Desert Shred Sesh

Arizona’s got mad desert trails that’ll blow your mind, especially in Sedona with its red rock views. Prescott’s singletrack is a hidden gem, and Tucson’s got over 300 miles of flowy goodness. Winter riding here is clutch since it’s warm when other states are freezin’.
