The Cigars Worth Smoking After a Big Win

Earn It First, Then Light It

<

There's a reason men reach for a cigar after a big win. The ritual of cutting, lighting, and settling into a premium smoke turns a fleeting moment of triumph into something slower and more deliberate — a pause worth having. Whether the victory is closing a deal, a championship, a personal milestone, or a promotion that's been years in the making, the cigar you choose signals how seriously you're taking the celebration. Not every stick deserves this moment, and not every moment deserves just any stick. The following fourteen cigars are the ones that match the weight of a genuine win — from approachable celebratory classics to rare, room-silencing smokes that remind everyone present that something significant just happened.

Padrón 1964 Anniversary: The Classic Victory Cigar

If there's one cigar that has become synonymous with celebration in serious smoking circles, it's the Padrón 1964 Anniversary. Made entirely from Nicaraguan tobacco aged a minimum of four years, the blend was created to mark the 40th anniversary of José Orlando Padrón's founding of the company, and it delivers notes of cocoa, espresso, earth, and a dark sweetness that evolves over a long, satisfying smoke. No brand in the modern era has earned more Cigar Aficionado Cigars of the Year than Padrón — a record no other producer matches — and the 1964 line sits at the heart of that reputation. It hits the sweet spot of being premium enough to feel genuinely special while smooth enough that even the occasional smoker at the table won't tap out early. Pair it with aged rum, a stout, or dark chocolate and let the evening stretch. Buy it now!

Liga Privada No. 9: A Smoke Built for the Inner Circle

The Liga Privada No. 9 began as a private blend created exclusively for Drew Estate's own use — a cigar the company considered too good not to sell. Built around a Connecticut Broadleaf Ligero Oscuro wrapper with a Brazilian Mata Fina binder and a blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers aged up to seven years, it delivers a full-bodied, richly complex smoke that earns its cult following among serious aficionados. Cigar Aficionado once crowned it the hottest cigar in America, and the reviews haven't cooled since. The draw is precise, the burn razor-sharp, and the flavors run through dark cocoa, black pepper, leather, and a lingering earthy sweetness that keeps evolving to the nub. This is the one you light when the celebration is your own and you're in no hurry to go anywhere. Buy it now!

Davidoff Grand Cru: Elegance Over Brute Force

First produced in 1946 by Zino Davidoff himself, the Grand Cru line embodies the brand's founding philosophy of "The Good Life" — understated luxury, impeccable refinement, and craftsmanship that doesn't need to announce itself. Every Grand Cru is handcrafted in the Dominican Republic using hand-selected, four-year-aged Dominican tobaccos, rolled by only a select group of master rollers and finished with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. The flavor profile is medium in strength and sophisticated in character: creamy cedar, subtle citrus, and layered nutty notes that unfold gradually and never overwhelm. It's the cigar for the win that comes with a quiet confidence rather than a raised fist — the kind you smoke with a Brut Champagne or a light Speyside single malt, allowing both to complement rather than compete. Oliva Serie V Melanio: Bold Enough to Match the Moment

Named for Melanio Oliva, the patriarch who first cultivated Nicaraguan tobacco in the 1930s, the Serie V Melanio is the flagship expression of the Oliva family's craft — and it earned the title of Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year in 2013. It's built on an Ecuador Habano Sun Grown wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, delivering notes of pepper, dark earth, espresso, and a velvety richness that fills the room. Full-bodied without being one-dimensional, it was the kind of cigar that made experienced smokers' eyes light up and remains a benchmark full-flavored smoke that serious aficionados actively seek out. If you handed one of these out to a group with mixed smoking experience and told them it was a big deal, nobody at the table would argue. Pair it with a Nicaraguan rum or a high-rye bourbon and let it run. Buy it now!

Arturo Fuente Don Carlos: A Legend in a Cameroon Wrapper

Named after the Fuente family patriarch Don Carlos Fuente Sr., this line is blended from vintage Dominican leaf aged as much as ten years and rolled in limited numbers at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic. The rare Cameroon wrapper sets it apart visually and in the smoking experience — it delivers a medium-strength cigar of spicy, full aroma with notes of cedar, lightly roasted coffee, leather, and a distinctive molasses sweetness that emerges in the final third. Cigar Aficionado named the Don Carlos Eye of the Shark its Cigar of the Year in 2017, cementing the line's legacy as one of the most storied in Dominican tobacco history. It has the balance and confidence of a cigar that doesn't need to overpower you to impress you — the right choice for a win that was earned with patience and precision. Buy it now!

Cohiba Macassar: Wood, Spice, and High Drama

The Cohiba Macassar is not the cigar for a modest occasion — it's the one you reach for when you've just closed the deal of your life and 20% commission hits the account. A big-flavor blend of rum barrel-aged Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos, it exudes notes of wood, spice, leather, and a deep, earthy complexity that makes it one of the most distinctive offerings in the Cohiba portfolio. The presentation is as commanding as the smoke itself, arriving in a sleek, striking package befitting the brand's reputation for luxury. Cohiba has long been associated with cigar royalty, and the Macassar carries that identity into non-Cuban territory with real authority. Pair it with an aged cognac or a peaty Scotch and give it the full evening it deserves. Buy it now!

Padrón Family Reserve: Ten Years in the Making

The Padrón Family Reserve represents the pinnacle of what the Nicaraguan tobacco master is capable of — a super-premium puro blended from the finest Nicaraguan tobaccos aged a full ten years before rolling. Full in both body and flavor, it is reserved for the rarest of occasions, and Cigar Aficionado has awarded it a 97-point score, placing it firmly among the greatest cigars ever made. The maduro and natural wrapper versions both deliver espresso, cocoa, dark fruit, and a profound depth that reveals new layers well into the second and third thirds of the smoke. It burns slowly, constructs perfectly, and demands nothing less than your full attention and a two-hour window. This is not the celebratory cigar you hand out — it's the one you sit with quietly after everyone else has gone home. Buy it now!

Liga Privada T52: A Maduro Built for Bourbon Nights

The T52 is Drew Estate's other Liga Privada benchmark, and where the No. 9 is the private blend, the T52 is the full public declaration of what the brand can do. Named for its rare stalk-cut, 52-day cured Habano wrapper — a labor-intensive process that gives the leaf extraordinary concentration — it draws from a four-nation blend of tobaccos to deliver a full-bodied, intensely layered smoke. Dark cocoa, black pepper, leather, and a lingering sweetness pour from this oily, near-black cigar with every draw. Cigar Aficionado's editors repeatedly named it among the highest-rated cigars for new job and promotion celebrations, and it pairs exceptionally well with a good bourbon, which makes it perfectly suited to the Gentleman's Pursuits standard evening. Give it 90 minutes and don't rush it. Buy it now!

Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970: Nicaragua's Boldest Statement

Joya de Nicaragua has been rolling cigars in Estelí since 1968, making it one of the oldest and most storied cigar factories in the country, and the Antaño 1970 is their most muscular expression. Blended from some of Nicaragua's oldest tobacco cultivars, it features a dark, rustic Jalapa wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, delivering a full, peppery, richly earthy smoke with notes of dark coffee, leather, and dried fruit. It is emphatically not for the beginning smoker, but for the man who has earned his palate over years of smoking and wants something that matches the gravity of a genuine achievement, it hits differently than almost anything else at its price. The construction is reliable and precise, and the smoke runs long — typically 90 minutes for the torpedo — which gives you time to actually process what just happened. Pair it with a glass of Nicaraguan rum. Buy it now!

Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua: A Bold New Chapter for a Historic Name

Released in 2020 to commemorate the brand's 85th year of existence, the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua was a deliberate departure — Montecristo partnered with master blender AJ Fernandez to craft something fuller, spicier, and more complex than anything the brand had produced under its classic Dominican framework. The result is a bold, full-bodied cigar that offers a profoundly satisfying smoking experience with notes of dark spice, cedar, leather, and a rich nuttiness that lingers long past the final draw. It received significant industry recognition on release and has cemented itself as one of the more impressive anniversary expressions in the modern cigar market. For the occasion that calls for something historically significant with a modern edge, this is the bottle — or rather, the stick — you open. Buy it now!

Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut: The Gentleman's Handout

Not every post-win cigar needs to be smoked alone. When the moment calls for sharing a premium smoke with a small group — team members, business partners, old friends who were in the foxhole with you — the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut is the intelligent choice. Blended from high-priming, well-aged Cuban-seed Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos under a silky Connecticut wrapper, it produces a mild-to-medium bodied smoke of real flavor and aroma without the intimidating intensity of the full-body heavyweights. It won Best Cigar of Nicaragua in 2014 and remains a widely respected smoke that holds its own in any company. The flavors run creamy, nutty, and subtly sweet — accessible enough for the occasional smoker at the table but complex enough that the seasoned aficionados won't feel they've been handed a compromise. La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull: For When You Need a Trophy Cigar

Litto Gomez of La Flor Dominicana cemented his standing as one of the world's great cigar makers when the Andalusian Bull took the number one Cigar of the Year title from Cigar Aficionado in 2016 — one of the most prestigious ratings in the industry. The Bull is named for and shaped like its namesake — a striking, tapered torpedo built from aged Dominican tobaccos with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that delivers a bold, spicy, full-bodied smoke with deep wood, leather, and dark fruit notes. Made in the Dominican Republic, it is both a genuine trophy for the collection and a serious smoking experience that rewards the kind of slow, deliberate attention a proper win deserves. It runs long, burns perfectly, and has the kind of dramatic visual presence that announces something significant is happening before you've even taken the first draw. This is not the everyday stick — it's the exclamation point. Buy it now!

Cohiba Behike BHK 52: The Cuban Crown Jewel

For the man whose win is truly exceptional and who smokes Cuban cigars, there is arguably no higher standard than the Cohiba Behike. Produced at the El Laguito factory in Havana, it incorporates Medio Tiempo — one of the rarest and most prized tobacco leaves grown only at the very top of the plant in tiny quantities — blended with aged Vuelta Abajo filler tobaccos that are reserved exclusively for this line. The Behike BHK 52 is available only in limited annual quantities due to the scarcity of the Medio Tiempo leaf, making each box a genuine rarity. It smokes with a complexity and depth that places it in a category almost entirely its own — rich, creamy, spiced, and smooth all at once, with an evolution across its two-hour burn time that few cigars from any origin can match. Lighting one is not a casual decision; it's the cigar equivalent of opening a bottle you've been holding for a decade. Buy it now!
