Few colors carry as much cultural weight in Japanese history as Edo purple — a deep, refined violet historically reserved for the highest ranks of society during the Edo period. Seiko, one of Japan's most storied watchmakers, is marking 145 years of horological craftsmanship with a limited edition collection that pays direct homage to this heritage hue. Purple dials have been having a broader moment in the watch world lately, but when a manufacturer roots the colorway in genuine cultural significance, it elevates the conversation well beyond trend-chasing. Across the collection, the shade appears on everything from rugged sport watches to dress-oriented pieces, demonstrating just how versatile a well-executed purple dial can be. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, anniversary releases like this tend to move quickly — and with good reason, as they often represent a manufacturer's finest expression of identity at a meaningful milestone.
