Keeping your car in tip-top shape ain't just about regular oil changes and tire rotations. Mechanics see all kinds of crazy stuff that can mess up your ride big time. Here's a list of things they say you should never do if you wanna keep your wheels rolling smooth. Trust me, I learned the hard way when I ignored my mechanic's advice and ended up with a busted radiator on a road trip—total nightmare!

1. Ignore That Check Engine Light

That little light on your dashboard ain't just decoration. It’s your car screaming for help. Ignoring it can lead to major issues like a fried engine or a dead catalytic converter. Get it checked ASAP to avoid a hefty repair bill.

2. Skip Regular Oil Changes

Oil is like the lifeblood of your engine, yo. Skipping changes makes your engine work harder and wear out faster. Dirty oil can gunk up everything, and nobody wants a seized engine. Stick to the schedule to keep things running smooth.

3. Use Cheap Gas All the Time

We all love saving a buck, but constantly pumping the cheapest gas can hurt your car. Low-quality fuel can clog injectors and mess with performance. Mix in some premium every now and then to keep your engine happy.

Driving like you’re in a Fast & Furious flick ain’t cool for your brakes. Hard stops wear out pads and rotors quick. Ease into stops to save your brakes and avoid that squeaky, grindy noise.

5. Overload Your Car

Packing your ride like it’s a clown car is a bad move. Too much weight stresses the suspension, tires, and engine. I once stuffed my hatchback with camping gear and furniture—yep, my shocks were toast after that. Keep it light, folks.

6. Neglect Tire Pressure

Low tire pressure is a sneaky killer. It messes with your gas mileage, makes tires wear out faster, and can even cause blowouts. Check your tires monthly with a gauge—it’s a quick fix that saves you trouble down the road.

7. Keep Driving on a Spare Tire

That donut tire is a temp fix, not a lifestyle choice. Driving on it too long can wreck your alignment and handling. Get that flat fixed or replaced quick, or you’re asking for a wobbly ride.

Look, I get it—YouTube makes you feel like a pro. But messing with stuff like your transmission without know-how is a recipe for disaster. I tried fixing my alternator once and ended up stranded. Leave the big jobs to the pros.
