Renault has turned heads with the Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept, unveiled on May 16, 2025, at the Roland-Garros tennis tournament. This rugged, all-wheel-drive take on the reborn Renault 4 E-Tech Electric blends retro charm with modern electric performance, hinting at a production model set for 2026. Designed for adventure-seekers, it promises to shake up the compact crossover market. Here are 10 key facts that make the Savane 4x4 Concept a standout in the world of electric vehicles.

All-Wheel-Drive for Versatile Performance

The Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept sets itself apart from the standard front-wheel-drive Renault 4 E-Tech Electric by adding a second electric motor on the rear axle. This dual-motor setup provides instant all-wheel-drive traction, making it ideal for tackling slippery roads or light off-road trails. While Renault hasn’t shared exact power figures, the standard model’s 148 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque suggest the Savane will offer a noticeable performance boost, likely shaving time off the regular 8.2-second 0-62 mph sprint.

Lifted Suspension for Extra Clearance

Built for adventure, the Savane 4x4 Concept features a suspension raised by 15 millimeters (0.6 inches) compared to the standard Renault 4. This increased ground clearance allows it to navigate uneven surfaces like gravel paths or bumpy trails with ease. While it’s not a full-fledged off-roader, this enhancement makes it far more capable than the typical urban crossover, perfect for weekend getaways.

Wider Tracks for Improved Stability

Renault’s engineers widened the front and rear tracks by 10 millimeters (0.4 inches), giving the Savane 4x4 Concept better stability on challenging terrain. This subtle modification enhances handling, ensuring the vehicle feels confident on tight corners or rough ground. It’s a practical upgrade that makes the Savane more versatile for drivers who venture beyond paved roads.

Eye-Catching Jade Green Paint

The Savane 4x4 Concept makes a bold statement with its exclusive Jade Green exterior, a new color that exudes adventure-ready style. Complemented by gloss black bumpers and wheel arches, the look is both rugged and refined. A pixelated fabric roof adds a modern, tech-inspired touch, ensuring this concept stands out in a sea of ordinary crossovers.

3D-Printed Bumpers for Durability

Ditching traditional bumpers, the Savane 4x4 Concept features 3D-printed front and rear parts designed with shock-absorbing properties. These innovative bumpers not only boost the vehicle’s ability to handle minor impacts but also showcase Renault’s commitment to cutting-edge design. They add a futuristic flair that matches the concept’s forward-thinking spirit.

Custom Wheels with Grippy Tires

Rolling on 18-inch “Savane” wheels, the concept is fitted with Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ tires (225/55) built for superior traction. Whether driving through rain, light snow, or loose gravel, these tires ensure the Savane stays planted. The unique wheel design adds a stylish touch, perfectly blending form and function for adventure-ready performance.

Rugged Yet Refined Interior

The Savane 4x4 Concept’s cabin strikes a balance between durability and comfort with Deep Brown refined textile (TEP) fabric seats. Tough enough for outdoor adventures, the material feels premium, while quilted backrests featuring a repeating “4” pattern pay homage to the Renault 4’s legacy. A houndstooth pattern on the trim adds a touch of sophistication to the rugged vibe.

Distinctive Dashboard Styling

The dashboard, clad in Deep Brown textile, features horizontal top-stitching that extends across the driver and passenger door panels, creating a cohesive and upscale look. A backlit “4Savane” logo on the dashboard strip adds a unique signature, making the interior feel tailored to this adventure-focused model. It’s a space that feels both practical and special.

Ample Range with Likely 52-kWh Battery

Though Renault hasn’t confirmed the battery size, the Savane 4x4 Concept is expected to use the 52-kWh battery from the standard Renault 4 E-Tech Electric, offering a 249-mile (400-kilometer) range on the WLTP cycle. This makes it suitable for daily commutes and longer trips, even with the added power demands of the dual-motor system, ensuring versatility for all kinds of journeys.

A Glimpse at Renault’s Electric Future

Building on the legacy of the 4ever Trophy concept, the Savane 4x4 Concept hints at a production model expected in 2026, with an estimated price of £32,000 (around $40,000). Its dual-motor setup showcases the flexibility of the AmpR Small platform, opening the door for future rugged or high-performance models like a dual-motor Alpine A290. Renault’s bold vision positions the Savane as a trailblazer in the electric crossover space.
